The Pacuare River

Rated as one of the top rivers for white-water rafting in the world, this 19-mile adventure takes you through Class III-IV rapids, where you’ll navigate through warm, crystal-clear waters, cascading waterfalls, and vibrant, opulent rainforest.
As you raft, the stunning surroundings indulge your senses at every turn—colorful plants, exotic birds, and wildlife like toucans, parrots, monkeys, jaguars, ocelots, and butterflies. Located on Costa Rica’s Caribbean slope, the Pacuare River is bordered by the majestic Talamanca Mountain Range, home to the indigenous Cabecar Indians and an incredible variety of species, making this journey not only thrilling but deeply immersed in nature.
The warm waters and dramatic rapids combined with the lush environment make this river rafting experience a tropical adventure like no other. After your rafting journey, you’ll enjoy scenic views of Braulio Carrillo National Park and the Irazu Volcano on your return drive to San José, ensuring that this tour will be a highlight of your Costa Rican adventure.
Who can go: Anyone in normal healthy physical condition. Swimming experience preferred but not necessary.

Minimum age: 12 when accompanied by an adult
Departure Time: 5:30 – 6:00 am, San José and Southern Caribbean Coast. Arenal Pick-Ups start earlier, approximately 5:20 – 6:30 a.m.
Return Time: Approximately 5:30 PM.
Includes: Sales tax, round trip transportation from San Jose, Puerto Viejo or Arenal area hotels with option to change destination, breakfast and lunch, first class equipment, bilingual-experienced guides, changing facilites after river trip.
Recommended Gear:Rubber-soled shoes that can get wet (Tevas, tennis shoes, booties or similar)
Swimsuit / swim trunks; t-shirt and shorts of a quick-drying material
Waterproof sunscreen lotion (SPF 15 or higher)
Sun hat or bandana
Croakies or straps to secure glasses
Change of clothes including dry shoes, towel

Cancellation must be made a full 48 hours prior to the service, otherwise a penalty of 100% will be applied 90% refund if cancel 48 hours or more (10% charged to cover bank refund fees).
