ITINERARY
Day 1: SAN JOSE Arrival in San Jose’s Juan Santamaria International Airport, where our driver will be waiting for you to transport you to Hotel Radisson Europa 5* or similar. Day 2: RIVER PACUARE (CLASS III-IV) Shortly after 7:00 a.m. your guide will pick you up at your hotel for a scenic drive and a stop for a traditional buffet breakfast along the way. Arriving at your put-in point you’ll load your gear into dry bags, hike down to the river, prepare the equipment raft, undergo a precise safety and paddle talk, and get wet. First day on the river is approximately 4 miles (1 1/2 hours) and provides an amazing welcome to the spectacular gorge of the River Pacuare with amazing rapids, waterfalls thundering into the river and a show of butterflies and birds. At a stop about halfway down you’ll enjoy a hearty riverside picnic lunch with time for a waterfall and swim. Arrive at the riverside lodge offering all the sleeping comforts you’ll need with very rustic, clean, and comfortable rooms with clean sheets and pillows. Afternoon can be spent hiking, relaxing under a waterfall or just wondering about. The energy in camp is generated by small hydro wheel and even tough there is light in the rooms, it is recommended that you bring a flashlight along. A cocktail hour and then a delicious dinner will be the end of this perfect first day Meals included; breakfast, lunch and dinner Day 3: PACUARE / CARIBBEAN After early morning coffee and breakfast, you’ll break camp and head down river. Morning is a wonderful time for bird watching around camp, especially toucans.You’ll never forget rapids like: Upper and Lower Huacas, Cimarron, Dos Montañas, Terciopelo, Double Drop…one after the next until take out. Depending on the weather, the river level, and the group’s interest, you’ll take time to explore side creeks, catch some “rays” and enjoy world class whitewater. You will make it to the take-out by by mid-afternoon to de-rig the rafts, and head to a private take-out where showers and cold drinks are available. Afterwards you will be transferred to Puerto Viejo (Caribbean) and Azania Bungalows. Hidden in the southern Atlantic coast, Azania Bungalows offers the tranquility of the Caribbean Sea just outside the town of Puerto Viejo. They are just steps away from the white sand beach of Playa Cocles. Also there are other beautiful beaches such as Punta Uvita to explore that will leave you breathless. Some beaches have restaurants, kayak rentals, and horse back riding available. Meals included; breakfast, lunch Day 4: CARIBBEAN / PUERTO VIEJO Morning pick up for Cahuita National Park snorkeling / hike tour. Cahuita National Park has the largest system of Coral Reefs in Costa Rica, including 6 species of coral, a wide range of colorful tropical fishes and the occasional encounter of a harmless reef shark or stingray. This beach has a horse shoe shape, with the entrance of the park at one end and beautiful Punta Cahuita at the other end. We start with a scenic 20 minute boat ride to have two snorkeling sessions. Then we get drop off at the Punta to enjoy a delicious fruit and snacks break at the beach followed by a 1 hour guided hike in this wonderful coastal forest: monkeys, sloths, birds, poison dart frogs, iguanas and other interesting encounters are common. Afterwards, your rental car will be delivered. Meals included; breakfast Days 5, 6: CARIBBEAN / PUERTO VIEJO Days to enjoy the beach and area around Puerto Viejo. Meals included; breakfast Day 7: SAN JOSÉ Leave Azania at leisure for drive back to San Jose and overnite at Hotel Radisson Europa Meals included; breakfast Day 8: RETURN HOME Drive to the airport to drop off rental car and connect with your return flight home and the end to an unforgettable vacation!!!
