ITINERARY
Day 1 – SAN JOSE Arrival in San Jose, pick up at airport and transfer to Grano de Oro Hotel (or similar) ** Accommodations in double standard room. Day 2 – RIO PACUARE Shortly after 7:00 a.m. your guide will pick you up at your hotel. After crossing San José you’ll arrive in the town of Paraiso where a traditional buffet breakfast will be served. Slowly traveling thru the windy roads of Costa Rica, you drive past several picturesque valley before arriving at the town of Turrialba and continue on between the Reventazón and Pacuare Valleys. Arrival at San Martin, your put-in point, will be welcomed as you prepare to load your gear into dry bags, hike down to the river, prepare the equipment raft, undergo a precise safety and paddle talk, and get wet. First day on the river is approximately 4 miles (1 1/2 hours) and provides an amazing welcome to the Pacuare gorge, its rapids, and beauty. Lunch and later dinner are scheduled at the lodge. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner Day 3 – RIO PACUARE/SAN JOSE After early morning coffee and breakfast, you’ll break camp and head down river. Morning is a wonderful time for birdwatching around camp, especially toucans. You will never forget rapids like: Upper and Lower Huacas, Cimarron, Dos Montañas, Terciopelo, Double Drop…one after the next until take out thru the spectacular gorge of Rio Pacuare with amazing rapids, waterfalls thundering into the river and a show of butterflies and birds. The drive back to San José is through the Braulio Carrillo National Park, offering tremendous mountain views. Total trip length – 18 miles, difficulty – Class (III-IV) Transfer back to San Jose and overnite at Grano de Oro or similar. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch Day 4 – OSA PENINSULA / CORCOVADO Transfer to airport for 9:00am flight and boat transportation to Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge in Drake Bay, Osa Peninsula to visit Corcovado National Park, an undeniably wild and beautiful place considered to be one of the most important natural preserves in the Americas. Overnite at Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge, a 170 acre private reserve, adjoining Corcovado National Park, providing the ideal base for exploring the rainforest, waterfalls, and miles of uninhabited beaches of the Osa Peninsula. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner Days 6, 7 – CORCOVADO NATIONAL PARK / CANO ISLAND BIOLOGICAL RESERVE Full day guided tours to Corcovado National Park, recognized as one of the most “biological intense” places on earth and Caño Island Biological Reserve to take advantage of the Reserve’s clear blue waters and snorkel among the coral reefs. Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner Day 8 – SAN JOSE After breakfast, transfer to the airport for return flight to San Jose. Pick up at airport and transfer to Hotel Grano de Oro (or similar) for some last minute shopping and one final opportunity to enjoy the city’s very lively nightlife Meals included: Breakfast Day 9 – RETURN HOME Transfer to airport for return flight home and the end to an unforgettable adventure!!!
