ITINERARY
DAY 1 – MANAGUA Arrival in Managua’s International Airport Augusto C. Sandino where our driver will be waiting for you to transfer you to your hotel. DAY 2 – MANAGUA Pick up at your hotel for city tour in Managua: You will know places Such as Avenida Hugo Chavez, Puerto Salvador Allende, Plaza de The Revolution, Old Cathedral of Managua, Paseo Xolotlán. Overnite in Managua (B) DAY 3 – MANAGUA / LEON Early morning pick up at your hotel for transfer to the colonial city of León via the ruins of León Viejo (Old León) and the geothermal mud pools at nearby San Jacinto. In León, there'll be a guided tour of the churches and cathedral in the colonial center, Central Park, El Calvario Church, La Iglesia Collection, National Palace of Culture, where you will find The National Archives, the National Library and National Museum, the Ruben Dario museum, and an art gallery. Afterwards, a visit to the Hervideros (Mud Pots) of San Jacinto, a small town northeast of Leon. These “mud holes” are connected to the Telica Volcano. Overnite at Hotel El Convento. (B) DAY 4 – LEON Day at leisure. Optional excursions include a hike on the Cerro Negro Volcano, a visit to the Botanical Garden at León University or a tour to the Juan Venado Island nature reserve on the Pacific coast to look for birds, caimans and iguanas. Nesting sea turtles may be also be seen at Juan Venado (May to November). (B) DAY 5 – LEON / ESTELI Early morning pick up at your hotel for transfer to the tobacco growing area of Estelí and a Cigar Tour where you’ll learn all about the industrialization of tobacco, from planting to the manufacture of Nicaragua’s world quality cigars. Afterwards, there will be a visit to the picturesque community of Garnacha where you’ll delight in the tropical mountain forest and lush flora and fauna, and cultural manifestations in handicrafts, gastronomy and more. Overnight in Estelí. (B) DAY 6 – ESTELI / GRANADA Early morning pick up at your hotel for 3-hours transfer to the colonial city of Granada on the shores of Lake Nicaragua, the tenth largest lake in the world. Tour to the Masaya volcano with its crater at an altitude of 1,900’ above sea level. The volcano maintains an incandescence in its interior from its lake of permanent lava and as a product of local legend at the time of the Spanish Conquest, the crater came to be known as one of the 6 gates to Hell. Afterwards, we’ll visit the town of Catarina overlooking the Laguna de Apoyo. Catarina is famous for its majestic view of the Lagoon, as well as for the handcrafts produced in the area. Upon returning to Granada, there will be a short walk visiting such landmarks as the Parque Central (Central Park), the Cathedral, the Chocolate Museum, the Convent San Francisco, and the Old Hospital of Granada. Overnite in Granada (B) DAY 7 – GRANADA Morning pick up at your hotel for a tour of the Isletas de Granada, considered one of the most attractive natural paradises in Nicaragua. It is an archipelago of more than 365 islets in the Great Lake of Nicaragua (Lake Cocibolca) which are presumed to have been formed thousands of years ago by the eruption of a volcano. Traveling in a small boat through the islets is an attractive, fun and relaxed way to travel the narrow canals that separate the islands and appreciate all the splendor and immensity of the Great Lake of Nicaragua. Afternoon at leisure. Overnite in Granada (B) DAY 8 – GRANADA / OMETEPE Early morning pick up at your hotel for transfer to the beautiful and enchanting island of Ometepe, nominated for the last 7 wonders of the world, being the only island within a freshwater lake with two volcanoes, one of which is active. The ferries leave for the island from the port of San Jorge Rivas and upon arriving at the port of Moyogalpa we will visit Punta Jesus Maria, located 5 km from Moyogalpa on the road to Altagracia. Punta Jesus Maria is very unique in that it is a stretch of narrow land that extends into Lake Cocibolca as far as one kilometer in the dry season. Afterwards, there will be a visit to the lagoons of Charco Verde and the Butterfly Biosphere Reserve. Overnite in Ometepe (B) DAY 9 – OMETEPE Morning kayaking tour along the mangroves of Lake Nicaragua. Afternoon free to relax and enjoy a swim in the lake. Overnite in Ometepe (B) |
DAY 10 – OMETEPE / MANAGUA / CORN ISLAND
Early morning pick up at your hotel for ferry back to the mainland and Managua where you’ll board the 2:30 pm flight to Corn Island in Nicaragua’s Caribbean Ocean. Corn Island consists of two small neighboring islands, this town turns out to be a true Caribbean paradise with its many white sand beaches and clear turquoise water color, coconut groves, coral reefs and the immense tranquility of their surroundings. It is the Great Corn Island, with its various neighborhoods and hills protruding from its rather flat surface; and to the north is the tiny Little Corn Island, less crowded and more peaceful. It is possible to walk around the island in about 2 hours, but there are several other ways to explore the island such as bicycles, golf carts, or motorcycles. (B) DAYS 11, 12 – CORN ISLAND Days on your own to relax or plan a scuba or snorkeling excursion. (B) DAY 13 – CORN ISLAND / RETURN HOME Pick up at your hotel for transfer to Corn Island’s airport for flight back to Managua and connect with your return flight home. (B) COST:
