Maquenque Eco-lodge is a new 60 hectares reserve located just north of Boca Tapada de San Carlos offering access to the newly created Maquenque National Wildlife Refuge.

A Costa Rican and Swiss families have created this jungle lodge to maintain and preserve wildlife habitat.  Their goal is to provide visitors with high quality accommodations and service in a unique setting and create an unforgettable rainforest experience in this privileged and still off the beaten path region of Costa Rica.

The lodge offers 20 beautiful bungalows, each equipped with hot water, private baths all beautifully decorated and furnished.  Each bungalow has direct access to the green areas of the lodge.

The Lodge is located in Boca Tapada inside the Maquenque Eco Preserve in the Northern Territory of San Carlos.  Surrounded by tropical rainforests, and bordering the Majestic San Carlos River, this area has become known as a unique destination for wildlife observation, unique birding, and adventure tours.

Transfers from San Jose area hotels or San Jose’s Juan Santamaría International Airport to hotels in the Arenal area are $170.00 each way, for a minivan with a capacity of up to 9 passengers. Approximate time from San José to the Arenal area is approx 2 hours and 45 minutes.
