Discover the Hidden Gem of Costa Rica: Rio Celeste Waterfall & Tenorio National Park Adventure
Description:
Embark on an unforgettable journey to Rio Celeste National Park, a picturesque 1.5-hour drive from Arenal Volcano, passing through serene rural villages. Known for its stunning turquoise waterfall, Rio Celeste has become one of Costa Rica’s most sought-after destinations for hiking and nature lovers.
Upon arrival, start your adventure with a guided hike through the lush rainforest of Tenorio National Park. Your expert nature guide will lead the way, sharing fascinating insights into the park’s unique ecosystem. Feel free to hike at your own pace as you immerse yourself in the wonders of this pristine environment.
At Los Tenideros, where two rivers meet, you’ll be spellbound by the magical blue color of the water. Local legend, passed down by the Maleku indigenous people, tells of a divine painter who dipped his brush into the river, giving it its celestial blue hue. Scientifically, this captivating color is due to minerals—aluminum, silicon, and oxygen—in the water, which refract sunlight and create the enchanting turquoise shade.
Capture breathtaking photos of the Rio Celeste Waterfall—one of Costa Rica’s most iconic natural wonders—before continuing your adventure. After your hike, we’ll stop for a delicious Costa Rican lunch at a local farm, where you’ll have the chance to explore the grounds, interact with animals, and unwind in a pristine river pool. You can also play soccer, relax in a hammock, or simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
On the way back, we’ll visit the Arbol de la Paz, a majestic tree that symbolizes the natural beauty of the region, before transporting you back to La Fortuna in comfort.
This moderate 1.5 to 2-hour hike (approximately 6 km / 3 miles) is suitable for all nature enthusiasts and families, offering a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and cultural exploration.
Important note: Weather conditions may affect the waterfall's blue color, especially after rain. We provide weather updates on the day of the tour, and you’ll have the option to reschedule or choose an alternative tour if necessary. Swimming in the river is not allowed for safety reasons
