Next, we’ll continue our journey to Poás Volcano National Park, where you’ll experience a remarkable change in climate and the lush beauty of the cloud forest. Standing tall at 2,708 meters (8,885 feet), the Poás Volcano is an active stratovolcano with a crater that measures over a mile in diameter and plunges to a depth of 1,050 feet. Since its first eruption in 1828, Poás has erupted 40 times, including a memorable eruption in April 2017.
At the volcano, you’ll have time to marvel at the awe-inspiring main crater, with its steaming sulfur fumaroles. We’ll also take a scenic hike along a trail to the tranquil Botos Lagoon, where you can learn about the diverse ecosystems that make up this extraordinary park.
