Rio Celeste National Park Guided Hike - In search of Costa Rica’s Blue Waterfall!
Description:
Mysterious and imposing from the very bowels of the Tenorio Volcano, manifestations of hidden power transform the union of the Buena Vista and Roble rivers into a sky blue stream, giving birth to one of nature’s most extraordinary phenomenons, the Rio Celeste “Light Blue River”. Along the river you’ll discover hot springs, bends of heavenly tranquillity and a waterfall of singular beauty, all surrounded by varied flora and fauna. The tour leaves at 7:30 a.m. from La Fortuna and arrives at the Tenorio Volcano National Park, where you’ll begin the 7 KM hike (approximately 4 hours) through tropical rain forest. The trail will take you to “Los Teñíderos” of the Rio Celeste, the site where the two streams of crystalline water come together to form the heavenly blue color that gives the river its name.
The tour returns through trails, rich with ecological wonders, that lead you to the “OLLAS” — openings in the ground where you can excavate healing muds, take a mud bath, and dip in the natural hot springs all the while observing the attractions of the Tenorio Volcano.
Your hike will continue through the jungle to seek out the volcano’s furnace vents that expel gases of extreme high temperatures. On your descent you will visit the spectacular Rio Celeste waterfall whose color makes it one of a kind. A typical Costa Rican lunch will be served at the end of the journey, and then the ride back to your hotel in La Fortuna.
