ALL TERRAIN HIKES
IN THE CLOUD FOREST
"Ideal to watch a big variety of birds"

We invite you to experience a full day of adventure as you hike through the cloud forest of Vásquez de Coronado County. This cloud forest is located just 30 km from the city of San Jose in a beautiful rural area that sits very near the Irazú Volcano.

The hikes, lead by professional guides in groups no larger than 15 people, go through private trails so we guarantee a personalized non-crowded experience in this unique and beautiful cloud forest – we also guarantee no electricity, no phones, a good workout, and fresh pure air from the forest!

The trip from San Jose to the shelter takes about 1 hour via comfortable 4x4 vehicle. The trip takes you through the town of Coronado where you can admire its’ beautiful neo-gothic cathedral – actually the only neo-gothic cathedral in Central America. Then the trip continues up into the hills through rural areas with dairy farms and panoramic views of the city of San Jose, the Braulio Carrillo National Park, the Barva Volcano, and the Irazú Volcano.

Arriving at the Cloud Forest in the Montserrat Community, you will see and hear different species of birds, exuberant foliage, crystalline rivers, some with waterfalls and at the end arrive at the shelter (EL REFUGIO). From here you will be able to appreciate the amazing views of the Braulio Carrillo National Park, The Central Volcanic Mountain Range, Tierras Morenas and Patillos Hills, and the awesome Irazu Volcano, just a few kilometers away..

At the shelter, the real adventure begins on the all terrain hike through the cloud forest!!
