| Lake Nicaragua. The 10th largest Fresh Water Lake in the world, over 350 islands, 5 Volcanoes, (two of which are active), form the headwaters of the Rio San Juan, our 6,000 square mile hunting grounds.
The lake is connected to the Caribbean Sea by means of the San Juan River. It is the only river, which flows out of the lake, 140 km eastward towards the Caribbean. Mark Twain traveled this River in 1866 and wrote: ".dark grottos, fairy festoons, temples, columns, pillars, towers, pilasters, terraces, pyramids, mounds, domes, walls in endless confusion of vine-work - no shape known to architecture uninitiated - and all so webbed together that short distances within are only gained by glimpses". |

In the San Juan River huge tarpon and huge snook abound. The world's record snook was taken in Costa Rican waters, the next will most assuredly come from the extremely low-pressured Rio San Juan, Nicaragua. |

|
| Nicaragua is a different story. This trip is not for the faint of heart, but the True Adventurer. We guarantee: Cold showers, no air conditioning, lots of mosquitoes, breathtaking jungle scenery, rare exotic birds, monkeys, caiman and more fish than you've ever seen in a freshwater setting. This trip consists of long hours traveling by boat in intense heat and rain, followed by grueling battles with huge Freshwater Tarpon, feisty Rainbow Bass and elusive Snook! The end of the day brings incredible meals prepared by our local chiefs. Consisting of giant freshwater shrimp, native dishes and the catch of the day, these meals are incredible, if you are not too tired to eat! |

Snook (Robalo)
Snook are fished by both trolling and casting in dozens of different locations along an 80 mile stretch of the Rio San Juan and its feeder rivers.
Rainbow Bass (Guapote)
Guapote are fished around the islands of Lake Nicaragua. The closest of these islands is a two hour boat ride from San Carlos in good weather. Wind and waves can arise at any time and make this part of the trip impossible. Weather conditions must be monitored at all times.
Tarpon (Sabalo)
Tarpon can be seen everywhere along the Rio San Juan. It is their playground and they are the undisputed kings of this river. Typically we will troll as we look for their feeding spots and large congregations of this very social fish. Once found we will identify the best lures and time of day to cast into these large gatherings. |
